Tuesday July 25th – Who owns Point2?

Hi, this is Chester.  In the last couple weeks I’ve met with some current customers and some potential clients and I’ve been asked about our ownership structure.  Seems as though many in the industry have been led to believe that Caterpillar now owns Point2.  This is not true.  While Caterpillar is a very good and valued customer of ours, the ownership of our company is held solely in the hands of the original five shareholders and the employees of Point2.  So there you have it!

Hi, this is Eve back from holidays with a great suggestion.  Scenario:  You have a client who’s interested in a package of your equipment – some backhoes, an excavator and maybe a wheel loader.  Every piece requires some sort of modification, whether it’s swapping out a bucket or adding in a new paint job – but only if this deal goes through.  So on the Internet the equipment is listed one way for the general public but you want to be able to give your customer a quote with the pending modifications, pictures and the new price – and to top it off, the customer has trade-ins too.  What’s a salesman to do?

Solution:  Use the Quote Builder – gives you the option of including a cover page, cover letter, trade-ins and a sales order – compile your quote and modify each piece of equipment, as required – and it’s simple to do.  You give your customer a professional looking quote, branded with your company logo and tailor made for them with your contact information listed.  Negotiating back and forth?  Go into your quote and fine tune – Point2 software tracks them for you too.  Quotes can be printed, faxed and, to cover all the bases, quotes can be e-mailed in two formats – PDF and HTML, so your customers have a choice on how they want to view them.  The best part is – all you have to do is point and click – hardly any typing!

Wednesday July 19th – Instantly improve print quality of Marketing Tools!

Hi, this is Chester.  With many valuable marketing tools in Point2 MANAGER (brochures, quotes, inventory reports etc.) you’ll want to read this quick tip on how to instantly improve print quality; regardless of your printer. 

 Users using Microsoft Internet Explorer:

1 – Select “FILE” from within any browser (top left corner)
2 – Select “PAGE SETUP…”
3 – In the Page Setup window remove all contents of the header and footer fields
4 – Click “OK”

Next

1 – Select “TOOLS” from within any browser
2 – Select “INTERNET OPTIONS…”
3 – Select “ADVANCED” tab (top right corner)
4 – Scroll two thirds down the list to “Printing” and click to add a checkmark to “PRINT BACKGROUND COLOURS AND IMAGES”
5 – Click “OK”

Voila!  You’re done.  Do this on each computer where salesmen or marketing people are printing quotes, brochures, inventory lists, or express reports… see the difference immediate!

Tuesday July 11th – June Stats for www.UsedIron.com

Hi, this is Chester (Eve’s off this week so I’m doing most of the updating).  Here’s an updates on our ongoing success with www.UsedIron.com

June 2006 was another strong month for traffic on UsedIron with over 139,014 visitor sessions recorded, accumulating over 1.3 Million Page Views (there were over 5.5 Million hits). 

Google was the #1 referring site; sending 35,142 visitors to UsedIron.com in June.  With over 16,000 machines for sale on UsedIron.com we received 267,207 detailed views (that’s when a buyer actually looks at the details of a unit – picture of the unit and your contact information).  These 267,207 detailed views resulted in 491 email leads to our sellers on actual units they own (this does NOT include “want to buy” emails, or “want ad” emails sent to our user list).  Since we do not track telephone calls we don’t know how many of those occured to our customers during the month (hundreds we’re sure).

Wednesday, July5th – Knee deep in equipment evaluations

Hi, this is Eve from Support and I have a new one for you. 

Scenario:  It’s a smokin’ hot day, and you are baking in the middle of your customer’s site doing a Used Equipment evaluation on a backhoe he wants to trade in to your dealership.  You have a form to fill out that was designed to cover everything from an asphalt compactor to a wheel loader, it is pages long and half the stuff doesn’t apply to the backhoe.  The amount of time it is going to take to go through each of the fields on the form, record the condition of the applicable components plus make it legible – will have you standing out there getting fried by the sun for half the day.

Solution:  Use one of the customizable Data Gathering forms designed for each type of equipment.  In the Members area of Point2, chose the type of equipment you want an inspection on and print the data gathering forms yourself.  The forms are set up so you just have to go through and tick the condition of each item – New, Rebuilt, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and there is even room to make comments too.  These forms are customizable for each Dealer, so if you are not interested in the Alternator Condition – remove it.  If you want a separate category for Operator Environment, listing cab, seat, radio, stereo, air conditioning, etc., you can have it.  This way when anyone from your company goes out and looks at a backhoe, there will only be 30 odd items to check off (no writer’s cramp!) and consistent information being recorded company wide.  The upside to all this is you can give your Data Gathering form and photos to someone with a non-mechanical background to enter into the system.  The information can be added to Point2 and there is not a lot of deciphering to do – the screens in Point2 look the same as your revised form – we’re keeping it apples to apples.  Customization of these forms can be arranged through the Point2 lead contact at your company or call Support for more information.
